How To Take Care Of Your Car’s Transmission

Friday, June 4th, 2010

The car transmission is very important. It is very expensive to have repaired. To avoid paying a huge bill, you must know how to take care of your transmission. Here are ways to take care of automatic transmission.

You should always regularly change the transmission fluid and the filter. Make sure that you check the transmission fluid level and the filter regularly. The normal color of transmission fluid is red, be wary when it already turned brown. Otherwise, you need to immediately change both fluids and filter for a cleaner and better transmission.

You also need to check on leaks under the car. It is necessary that you fix the leak, if there are any, to be able to prevent damage to the transmission. Regular checkup will prevent this.

Make sure that you are shifting gears correctly. You must know that there is a right and a wrong way to shift gears with the transmission. You must only shift when the car is stopped. Do not shift from reverse to drive when your car is still moving because this will overstress the transmission clutch and gear.

Also do not overuse overdrive since this will put stress on your transmission. Make sure that you use overdrive during normal driving conditions only. In some cases the engine may run with revolutions per minute at a high speed. This will all depend on the car that you are using. Make sure that you switch off overdrive when you are carrying heavy load or when you’re driving in high terrain.

You have just read how to take care of y our automatic transmission. Follow those ways if you want to maintain and use your transmission for a long time. Remember you don’t want to pay a very large amount of money, so take care of your transmission.

Having to pay for auto repairs is definitely one thing we all hate doing if we own a car.But one thing is for sure, we have to get our cars fixed when our they break down. But what most of the people don’t really realize is the mere fact that they can make sure their car repairs aren’t as expensive. In this article we are going to examine the effective ways that you can spend less on repairs.

The first thing you need to do is to make sure that you take care of your car in a regular manner.you should do the simple things first In other words.Making sure that you change the oil regularly is one of those simple things you have to do.Doing this one simple thing will definitely help you in order to make any car problems less severe.  As a matter of fact the clients who do regular oil changes in my San Marcos auto repair service experience less in repair costs.

The next good thing you definitely want to do is to do regular tune ups. This is really good for a couple of reasons. The very first reason is you will really make sure that you replace all the fluids and spark plugs in your car.The next valid reason is when you do regular tune ups, an auto repair shop can detect problems early.  That is why I have all my clients of my Carlsbad auto repair service come in for regular tune ups.

Finally you absolutely have to treat your car right. To not drive your car too hard is actually some way that you can treat your car right.  In other words you aren’t in a race so don’t drive like a race car driver.  Or don’t ride hard on the brakes because this hurts the car in many ways. The clients of my San Marcos transmission repair service who treat their car right have less repairs then those who are rougher.

So you can ensure for yourself lower costs of repair if you religiously follow these few steps. As a matter of fact, you might not have that many repairs to begin with if you do these things.

Caring for two important parts of your car

Friday, December 4th, 2009

One thing about the cars in our society is certain, we need them. Many peope in many places can’t really endure living without a car. Sure there are buses but it makes it hard especially in this busy life.It makes sense to know how to care for cars since they are very important in our lives.  So we are going to look at two major parts of our car that always need to be maintained.

The first very important part of a car is the engine. This is comparative to the car’s heart. If you don’t take good care of this part of your car it will absolutely stop working. So in my San Marcos auto repair service I make sure my customers know how important this part is.And it is also simple to take good care of. If a person were to just do regular tune ups and change the oil they will keep their car in good shape.

Next part of the car that is important is the transmission. This is critical in being able to drive your car. If your transmission breaks down so does any use of your car.  In my Carlsbad auto repair shop I see so many broken down transmissions.  Most of the breakdowns could have been avoided. The main way to do that is to make sure there is enough fluids always.Plus to ensure that changing gears are done gently and at a complete stop always.

Taking good care of your car’s transmission and engine isn’t that difficult as you can see.All it requires is a commitment to make sure that that part of your car is taken cared.I tell all my clients of my shop that doing a little maintenance today will enable them to save a large amount of money in the future. They end up having cars that last a long time without any problems those who are willing to do that.  Those that don’t end up with cars they have to bring in all the time with problems.

Tips in maintaining older cars

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

With the kind of economy that we are in right now people are making sure that their things last longer. Gone are the days when people would just replace old things with new things.Cars are included in that list of items. With cars you really have to maintain them to make sure they last.Because not doing so will result to them breaking down.So here are some advice on maintaining your car’s life.

First of all one of the biggest mistakes clients of my San Diego auto repair shop do is not change their oil regularly.Let us similarize our blood to the oil of the car.  Without it your car won’t run.And if you do not replenish its oil regularly then the running condition of the car will be affected. In the long run, this can remove some years off your car’s life. You must regulalrly maintain the oil of your car if you want to make it last.

Next thing you must make a point to do is to regularly do tune-ups.Not doing regular tune-ups would result to an engine that does not function well. And the result of engine that does not function well may be a failed smog test.  In my San Diego smog check shop most of the cars that fail were cars that didn’t do regular tune ups.  It is something simple but can have a big impact on the life fo your car.

Lastly, you should take care of your brakes.  In my San Diego brake service business I try to let my clients know how important it is to care for your brakes.  This is one part of your car you don’t want to fail.It can also be very expensive to replace broken brakes.Always see to it that your brake fluid levels are always filled. And do not be too heavy-ffoted when breaking.Prepare yourself to break as far as possible to the next thing in front of you so as to avoid breaking and stepping suddenly on the break pedals.

If you do these things you will surely have a car that will last a long time.

Ways to check your transmission

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

One of the most expensive auto repairs you can do is a transmission repair. It is a huge part of your automobile.Making sure to care for it is important.By doing some maintenance on your car you will end up saving a lot of money.  Since you can’t fix it yourself here are some ways to check it at home.   By checking it at home you can make sure you need to take it in.

First off since I own a San Marcos Auto repair shop I know how expensive transmission repairs can be.  So I always tell my clients to check a couple of things first.  This way they can make sure they need to come in.  First off they can check the fluid. The fluid needs to be real clear. If you find that the fluid is black or dark, that is a warning sign of problems and the car has to be brought in.

Second thing they can check at home is to check the gear shifting. You accomplish this by simply moving the gears from park to drive.Or you can shift it from park to reverse.  What you are looking for is for the gears to shift smoothly. What you hope doesn’t happen is a jerking motion.  If you do have jerking that is a sign that something is wrong with your tranmission.  In my Carlsbad transmission repair shop this is one of the big signs of transmission problems.Quite a few cars that are brought in have this problem.

Finallyl what you can check for is any leaks of your transmission fluid. This is something you can check with your dipstick. But you won’t be able to tell unless you do this checking regularly.  I advise all my customers in my Carlsbad auto repair shop to always check your fluids.  People are familiar with checking for oil.But their transmission fluid is something they need to check also. This gives you the ability to tell if the fluid is leaking.

If you perform these steps on your car you are making sure your transmission stays in good condition.

Signs of transmission problems

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

The transmission is one of the most expensive parts of a car to be repaired. Most cars are built well nowadays.  But it can be easily broken and very expensive to fix.  So you want to always maintain your transmission. With that in mind let’s look at some signs of transmission problems.

First thing that can signal a problem with the transmission is by looking at the fluids.  If you go to check the fluid with a dipstick it can give you a sign. If you find that the fluid is low it could be a sign of a leak.If the fluid has a burnt smell or is dark in color then that is a sure sign of problems. So to be sure that your car does not suffer any major problems with the transmission make sure that you check your fluids regularly. If you observe one these signs then that would also be a sign for you that you need to go immediately to an auto repair shop.  I catch a lot of transmission problems early in my San Marcos transmission repair shop with these signs alone.

Another sign of problems for your car’s transmission is when you shift it into drive and there is a delay. If you shift it and it does not get into gear immediately then that’s a sign of a problem. They call that problem a delayed engagement. This could be a sign that the transmission is too worn or some other problem. I have all my clients take it into my San Marcos auto repair shop anytime they get the delayed engagement problem.

And last sign would be when the gears are jerky when shifting it while driving. All shifting done when driving should be smooth and not jerky. If your car jerks everytime you shift gear then that would be a sure sign of a worn out transmission. I catch a lot of problems early in my Carlsbad transmission repair shop when this happens.  By catching it early a customer can save a lot of money in repairs.

How checking your car’s transmission regularly helps in saving a lot of money

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Cars right now are better made than the cars before.Even those cars that were considered cheap and not a good car last longer now.But even if cars are more durable now problems still happen from time to time.A transmission problem is one of the biggest problems a car can acquire.  Not only is it one of the biggest problems but it can also be one of the most expensive.

So here are some things to look for that I have learned running my San Marcos transmission repair company.First thing you should do is to maintain the level of your fluids at a good level or, better yet, fill them up regularly. If you do not do this then there is the possibility of damaging your transmission in no time.So make sure to have your dipstick always so you can check the fluid levels regularly.Make sure that it is at a good level.

The second you would want to check is if it is still clean. One sign of a problem for your car is a dirty transmission fluid.  If you find that the fluids are dirty or black then have it checked immediately.  I get cars in all the time at my Carlsbad transmission repair shop that have this problem. But in bringing in their cars early for checkups they were able to avoid more expensive repairs or replacements.

Next if you are going to do some maintenance yourself be careful.  When you change the fluids make sure you buy the right fluid for your transmission. It can be surprising but people make mistakes and they sometimes put in a wrong type of fluid. If someone accidentally does this mistake then the transmission of his/her car would burn up in no time.So make sure to put the right kind when changing your fluids.  I tell all my clients of my San Marcos auto repair shop when in doubt just have professionals do it for you.It makes sense because this part of your car is very expensive to replace.

So if you follow these few pointers you may be able to maintain your transmission.Following the steps mentioned above will save you a lot of money and it just takes a little while to do.

Saving money on auto repair

Monday, September 28th, 2009

All of us know that it is expensive to have our car fixed and maintained. If it is still new you wouldn’t have problems on spending a lot on maintenance and repairs. But as it ages it will need more attention and maintenance. So let’s look at the ways to avoid spending too much when going to an auto shop.

In my San Diego auto repair shop I hear so many stories of people getting ripped off when they take their car to an auto shop.Things like paying for something way over its real price or getting billed for repairs the car doesn’t need happen all the time.So what should be done to avoid this?Keeping your car maintained is the best that you can do to avoid expenses.Don’t wait until something happens to your car.Keep it in a good condition.

One of the best ways to keep your car running at its best is to have it undergo regular tune-ups. This prevents any problems sneaking up on you.  It also keeps your engine running smoothly.Regular visits for tune-ups of your car will save you a lot of money from repairs in the long run. Not passing the smog test is one the problems caused by not properly tuning up your car.  I have seen older cars in my San Diego smog check shop that if they were taken care of they would have passed the smog test. This may lead to more complications.

The brakes are another part of the car whih are getting neglected. A lot of people are surprised by a part of their cars-the brakes. It suprises then when they see the bill for its repair and maintenance.  Believe me, I see the look on the faces of my customers of my San Diego brake shop when they see how expensive it can be.  But if they had just taken care of their brakes they could have avoided it.

Taking care of your car to so as not to get ripped is the main point here.  A properly maintained car will have less problems for shops to say is wrong with it.

Things to know about how to maintain your car

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

In this day and age everybody needs a car.  Some people need planes. But for many people, the use of a car is critical to surviving. It is able to transport people to their jobs.  It takes people to go shopping.  It takes people to school.  So what I would like to share is the 3 important parts of keeping your car in order.

This is from a perspective from my experience running a San Diego auto repair company. The two areas we need to take a closer look at is the health of your car and your overall safety.

So when it comes to safety you can put all types of maintenance as being critical to safety. But there is a part of your car that is critical to safety. That part of the car is your brakes.  With cars going faster and faster you need good brakes. With more and more people having so many distractions good brakes are a must.By taking the proper steps to care for them you will always have the ability to brake in time.Brakes that you make sure are well maintained will save lives and save money.  I have seen it first hand running a San Diego brakes shop.

In reference to keeping your car healthy the critical thing to remember is to keep your car maintained.  Some of the important things to do are oil changes and tuneups. By keeping your car’s oil maintained your car runs smoother and longer.By not making sure your oil is always changed you can end up ruining your engine.

Another important point you should remember to do is have regular tune ups done.If you can do that you will be able to keep your car’s important functions taken care of.By performing this step you will have a car that runs smoother and cleaner. If you are unable to do this your car will be running very badly.  Some of the consequences could lead to failed smog tests.  Most of the cars that fail in my San Diego smog check shop are the ones that didn’t take care of those things.

So by doing these two things you will keep your car safe and you and your loved ones safe.
